The visual inspection of a hazardous substance cabinet becomes a hands-on experience in VR: Virtual reality makes it possible to simulate a wide variety of conditions and environments and thus transport the user to other worlds. In practical application for teaching, this means a much easier and safer way to practice with hazardous substances. The VR hazardous materials cabinet offers a guided visual inspection, which generates a random variant of the cabinet with different errors each time the exercise starts. This means that the condition of the cabinet must be checked in a concentrated manner each time and the application can be played through many times without becoming monotonous — the visual inspection is thus optimally trained! As additional help, a tablet is provided on which a checklist must be completed. This structure provides a good overview of the potential deficiencies. Hands-on work can be done on the cabinet itself: the realistic interactions with objects and the cabinet give trainees self-confidence for upcoming tests at their workplace.
